Creatures:
The Apocalypse District is all bourne of demon descent, one way or another. Only a handful of creatures and people don’t have demon blood running through their veins.

Demons are animals tainted with magic blood. All mythical creatures and deities are from demon descent one way or another, how indirect it may be.

Most people in the Apocalypse District have at least a little demon blood in their veins, even if they are human. Most demons aren’t exactly… Heh, LOYAL to their race or their family, thus a lot of relatives related in some way or another.

Mostly, demons come in wildcat, bird, or dog form for some reason.

There are three ‘ranks’ of demons:

1st Rank: Pureblood demon. They are demons that retain full demon/animal form, and do not have a human form. They typically look like some sort of animal, but mutated in some way. (ie: Wings, elongated snouts, extra teeth, horns, spines, multiple sets of eyes, discolorations, etc. )

Common examples: Dragons, manticore, chimera, griffins, hydra, kraken…

2nd Rank: These demons are extremely close to the pureblood demons, but have a human(like) form. They tend to retain some demonic physical traits in their human forms, usually ears, teeth, claws, tails, and wings. Some have multiple forms. (These are referred to as shapeshifters)

Common examples: Dopplegangers, shapeshifters, changelings…

3rd Rank: These don’t have a full demon form at all. They are usually mostly human, with demonic physical traits.

Common examples: Fairies, elves, imps, kobolds, orcs, bugbears, harpies, mermaid, sirens, liches, zombies…

Others:

Celestials: These are demons that live in light terrain. They tend to be more friendly with humans, and have brighter colored pelts (Said to be bleached by the sun) and a lot less spines than their close brothers. They aren’t considered demons.

Common examples: Unicorns, seraphim, cherubim, Pegasus, White stags…

Half-demon: These are borne from normal, non-magical beings mingling with demons. Usually, powers are the only genetic thing that shows up, like beastlike strength and magic.

Common examples: Witches, Sorcerers, sages, wizards, necromancers, pyromancers, HERCULES, Dire bears (and cats, dogs, lizards, etc.)

Blood transfer: There are some demons that can give normal people a demonic trait or two through giving them a bit of their blood. Since demon blood-- if offered from a pureblood demon-- can rearrange DNA or act like a poison. However, it only works on people who don’t have demon blood already in them, so there are only a few of these.

Common examples: Werewolves and Vampires…

Supernatural beings: After someone dies, their spirit lives as a separate entity. Mostly, the reapers gather these up, but there are a few that sit around and rot… Shift into something EXTREMELY POWERFUL and deadly, since spirits are made of pure energy. Pure energy attracts demonic energy, which gathers around demons like an aura.

Common examples: Ghosts, poltergeists, archangels…

Witches: Witches are beings who are mostly human, but with magic ability. While they mostly refer to females, males of this type are also called witches. (They prefer being referred to as Sorcerers, though.) Most witches have some demon blood in their veins causing them to have magic ability, but there are also normal humans who delve into magic by illegal means. The magic can vary from necromancy to elemental magic.

Most witches have a mark or a quirk of some sort to show who they are. (Ie, Amania Alexas's marking under her eye and Abbey's bleeding hands, see character list for more info.) but seem human by mostly every other respect with possibly some demonic qualities.

Humans: Humans hopefully are self-explanitory, but the people in the District have some quirks about them. Due to demon contact, there is a handful of diseases that they pass on to humans that humans don't have immunity to. They are deadly, but tend to take their effect slowly. Such diseases include rotting flesh, weakness, coughing up blood, etc. (See Alia Haste's reference on the CHARACTERS section of the journal History for more information. )

Some haven't caught such a disease, but most are out of luck. The disease is usually caught when the human is in their teenage years.

Also, most humans have delved into sciences and literature, and many hold grudges against demonkind. They are less numerous than demons, and die at a young age via disease or otherwise.

...

Depending upon the Kingdom depends upon the type of demon you run into, and what they look like.

Animalia Kingdom: They are extremely small (Around as big as a housecat, even if they are a large type of animal) and have dull colored fur. (Greys, browns, blacks. ) Their eyes are circular, and lack pupils. They are mildly humanoid in stature, tending to stand and walk on two legs, have humanlike jaws, opposable thumbs, etc. More often than not, a strange black liquid tends to ooze from their eyes. This liquid is known as “Cassandra’s Tears” and are a type of poison that lasts only a little while, causing the victim to hallucinate. They tend to have legs bent in strange directions, missing half a jaw, have a lot of teeth, and multiple holes in their skull. Typically, they are mountain animals. (ie, wildcats, bears, deer, moose.) They are used more as household servants and workers.

The second-rank demons of this kingdom are typically shorter, and usually do not have Cassandra’s Tears. (However, a character with Cassandra’s tears would just be freaking EPIC. )

Shadow Kingdom: All of the demons here vary in sizes… They can be as big as a small lizard to as large as a full-grown Willow tree (Although, demons of that size are very rare) Depending on how powerful they are, the larger they will be. The most powerful demons can change their size. There are only three types of animals that the shadow demons take after… Birds, lizards, and cats. They are always black, and rarely have eyes. If they do, they are either red or yellow, and lack pupils. These demons are the kind you make deals with… They have the ability to grant wishes. Of course, usually wishes go wrong, so be careful what you wish for. They usually take either one of your senses, your powers, or for larger wishes, your soul.

There aren’t many second-rank demons from this Kingdom since shadows are technically matterless. However, the second-rank demons there are have darker skin, black hair, and either gold or red eyes.

Death Kingdom: Usually larger (Around the size of a tiger or larger), with multiple heads and darker colored pelts (Blacks and dark Browns).Common traits are rotting flesh, bone limbs, red eyes, ghostly glow, batlike wings and long claws. The most common animals in this Kingdom are cats and dogs (Mostly Lions and wolves) but serpentine creatures and bears are also common. Tend to be EXTREMELY well-versed in magic. However, lots of other demons from other kingdoms tend to migrate to the kingdom, so there is a large variety.

There are a lot of second-rank demons in this kingdom, and they all vary in set ages and sizes due to there being a variety of creatures migrated from other kingdoms in the Death Kingdom.

Doom Kingdom: These demons are typically the same size as they would be if they were the original animal or larger. However, their pelts are bright colors, usually in reds, greens, blacks, and purples. These demons are usually large wildcats, but bears are also common. They have a lot of spines, horns, and wings, and typically have longer claws and teeth. These demons are merciless and evil, disloyal to EVERYONE save their own kingdom. If you were to encounter one, you’re most likely going to be eaten alive. Rely on brute strength.

There are few second-rank demons in this vicinity, but the ones there are usually taller and stronger than most other humanlike beings.

Despair Kingdom: These demons take after rodent-type creatures. (Ie… Mice, rats, hamsters, Chinchillas, rabbits, guinea pigs) They are usually larger (Usually the size of a full-grown Husky dog) and like the Doom kingdom, contain brightly colored pelts. (Usually purples and blues. ) They usually have LOTS of razor sharp teeth and red eyes, but usually don’t have claws. They are known to have lots of stitches and scars, even if they have never been in a fight. Typically, their eyes and mouths are stitched up. Some of them have Cassandra’s Tears, just like the neighboring Animalia Kingdom. They are usually smarter and cleverer than other demons, relying on their mind to mess with others. They absolutely love screwing people up mentally.

This kingdom also doesn’t have many second-rank demons, but the ones they do have look like children. They are known to be expressionless, as well.

Destruction Kingdom: These demons usually are lobo type Demons (Aka, dogs. ) and dragons. They can be as large as a regular wolf to as huge as a full-grown tiger (Or, for the dragons, as big as a three-story house). Usually their pelts are crimson. They usually have black bladelike spines running down their backs and arms, and tend to have extremely long teeth and claws. Like the Doom Kingdom, they are extremely strong and merciless, and rely on both brute strength and magic.

There are a few second-rank demons here, and they look like they are all in their late teens.

Aquarius Kingdom: These are all fishlike demons (for obvious reasons) and are colored in reds, greys, and browns. Since most of the water is red in the demon realm, their colors are usually for camouflage. They tend to be mildly beastlike in structure (Meaning more limblike features, more expressive eyes, ears, etc. ) and have lots of teeth.

There aren’t any second-rank demons in this kingdom, only third-ranks. (Mermaids, sirens.)

Polaris Kingdom: Typically, these are birds, bears, and dogs, but AMPHIBIANS, surprisingly, come from the more tropical region of the kingdom. They all have thick fur, usually coming in darker shades of grey and red. They usually have leathery skin on their paws instead of fur, smaller muzzles and long, sharp claws. (Save the amphibians, who have oily dark skin all over, and scaly tails.) These, like the Death Kingdom, are well-versed in magic.

The second-rank demons in this kingdom usually have darker hair and a slight build, and vary in sizes and ages.

Celestials: These usually are horse type creatures, but bird and wildcat types are common as well. They tend to look more like the original creature they were derived from (Meaning that they are lacking spines, elongated teeth or claws, etc.) but they often have bleached skins and bird wings. They aren't very fond of their close demon relatives at all. They are usually well-versed in magic.

All of the second-rank demons here usually retain their wings (Since there are so many winged celestials… The non-winged celestials don’t usually retain a thing in human form, they just look human.) They are typically blonde with bright blue eyes, and have a lean, tall build. They are also known to look quite young for a long time and live for thousands of years.

Others:

Reapers: Reapers are all second and third rank demons due to the complication of HOW IN THE WORLD YOU CAN HOLD A SCYTHE WITHOUT IMPOSABLE THUMBS? They all have a dress code. Every Reaper must wear a cloak of some sort (The design doesn’t matter) and wear a cross with their outfit somewhere. (ie, makeup on the face, a necklace, an emblem on their outfit, etc.)

(I’ve actually gotten a lot of questions about that… Yes, they are demons. Yes, they wear crosses. My demons are different. Crosses don’t hurt a thing. They aren’t a symbolic item to the demons, however, it is just something to show their mark as a Reaper. )

Depending upon their rank depends upon how many demon TEETH they have. The top 8 reapers have three teeth which they can put anywhere on the outfit, or put in their pocket depending upon what they deem appropriate, higher ranking reapers have two (Most likely, any character that you guys create that is a Reaper will be a higher ranking reaper for convenience) and the lowest ranking reapers have only one. New recruits have none until they properly pass the entrance exams.

While these are the basic designs, it's very open. As far as it is concerned, you can be whatever demon-type you want or even make some up if you feel you want to as long as it fills the proper design standards.
